To design or not to design?

We recently got a brief for 2 kitchen designs and followed it to the letter.

The one client said it was exactly what she wanted but the other client said it wasn't original!

So what does one do?

Do you follow the brief at the risk of being borring or do you use your own initiative and WOW your
client!(“you did not listen to me or this is not what what I wanted.” )

May be the answer is a bit of both.

Follow the brief but try something new with a change here and there.

The other option is to do two designs:

  1. Listen to your mind and design as per instruction.

  2. Follow your heart, design it the way you think works best for the space(as it where your own kitchen)

Yes, it is double the work but just maybe you end up with something better and creative.

The down side is that it might confuse your client or the client might think you are not even sure which one?

The only other advise I can give is to ask as many questions as possible during the first visit,i.e.

What do you think about the hob on the island,do you want to sit around the island?

By doing so I guess you meet half way.(win – win situation)

What are your thoughts on this topic?
